20 January 2005, Phuket Boardriders Club members proudly donate 25,000 baht to Kalim School and 25,000 baht to Kamala School for rebuilding after the tsunami. Thanks to donors from all over the world and t-shirt sales for giving help directly where it is needed in our local surfing communities

Update 19 January 2005

The Boxing Day tsunami and resulting damage to Phuket's beaches have been widely reported upon in global media. From the perspective of Phuket Boardriders Club, our members have been severely affected, as most of us live or work in Patong, Kalim and Kamala. The Club itself lost anything that was in Bud's Bar, which was totally destroyed, as was most of Sabai Beach Restaurant where we usually hang out.

Despite this, Phuket Boardriders Club has banded together from all over the world and raised over 50,000 baht in donations from farang club members and T-Shirt sales for presentation to Kamala and Kalim Schools rebuilding programs.

In recognition of their kindness, donors names are listed here with thanks on behalf of the Club and all the Thai locals who will benefit from your donations. Donors of $5,000 baht each were: Kevin Jones, John Royle, Russ Oz, Andrea Capucci, Tom Fekete, Nicky Martin, Robert Lyle, Mark Abatangelo and Russell Hally. Thanks also to Joob for organizing the Tsunami Survivor T-Shirt which is selling well in Phuket.

Phuket Boardriders Club will continue to assist Tsunami vitims on the island for a long time to come, as the damage to people's homes and livelihoods will take a while to repair. Any companies, organizations or individuals wishing to help the Club and its Thai members, please contact Joob or Tom in Patong, or Russ in Australia.
